- Staunton was founded in 1747, incorporated in 1871, and became and independent city on July 10, 1902.
- Staunton's population in just shy of 25,000.
- The City has a total area of 19.7 square miles and is located in the Shenandoah Valley in between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains.
- In 1908, Staunton was the first city in the world to adopt a city manager form of government.
- There are 670 lodging rooms located in the City of Staunton. Visitors will find a variety of hotel options from elegant to modest. - There are a wide range of restaurants at all price levels.
- Special emphasis on fresh cuisine emphasizing our rich agricultural heritage. Pasture raised meats and fresh local produce are incorporated into the menus of many local restaurants.
- The Staunton/Augusta Farmer's Market has been a "producer only" market since it was founded in 1993. The emphasis is on homegrown and homemade.
- Often called the "Queen City" of the Shenandoah Valley, Staunton has six separate historic districts. The city offers an architecturally rich and compact downtown.
- The American Shakespeare Center, a theatrical company centered at the Blackfriars Playhouse, is the only existing replica of Shakespeare's Blackfriars Theatre.
- Staunton is the birthplace of the 28th U.S. President, Woodrow Wilson and the home of the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library.

- Mary Baldwin College, a women's college that features a number of unique programs, including the Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership and the Program for the Exceptionally Gifted, is located on the hilltops above downtown.
- Staunton is home to the older of the two campuses for the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.
- Staunton's climate is warm during summer when temperatures tend to be in the 70's and cold during winter when temperatures tend to be in the 30's. Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate. The annual average precipitation at Staunton is 38.85 inches. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year.
