The New York Post just released a list of their choice for the top 100 destinations for New Yorkers to visit this summer within a six hour drive or one hour plan ride. Staunton, Virginia ranks an impressive #42 on this list. The only other Virginia destination to receive this honor is Alexandria, Virginia, in at #65.
The Post describes Staunton as, "one of Virginia’s many handsome small cities," "a culture vulture's delight" and “a success story that will make you smile.” A visit to Staunton will make you smile indeed. Staunton's revitalization efforts over the last thirty years have received many accolades from the preservation community, but are really getting noticed by tourists and the media now.
The article claims that "any time is a good time to stop in Staunton," but it is best to plan your visit around a performance at the Blackfriars Playhouse, which the Post describes as "the big deal around here." They also gave kudos to our restaurants, Staunton Music Festival and the Staunton/Augusta Farmers Market.
Other great destinations that Staunton outranked, according to this article include Boston, MA, Cooperstown, NY, Baltimore, MD and Toronto, ONT.
